Meet the next generation of American Gymnastics

The upcoming Pan American Championships will be a test for American gymnastics; it will gauge the depth and strength of the next line of U.S. gymnasts. Because of the disruptions caused by the pandemic, many of the new seniors in the would-be 2021-2024 quad, got overshadowed by the A-tier Olympic team group. This is a brief introduction to a few standout athletes that I’m looking forward to watching pursue their gymnastics careers and beyond.

Elle Mueller

Mueller made her senior elite debut in 2021 when she officially qualified Elite at the Biles National qualifier. Flash forward to now, the Twin City Twisters gymnast is now a member of the U.S. National Team and is set to compete at the Pan American Championships in Brazil later this month. What stands out to me most about Mueller’s gymnastics is her unique bar routine construction featuring a Stalder-half into Ezhova and Chow + Ricna combinations.

Lexi Zeiss

Zeiss has shown remarkable growth in her gymnastics since 2021. She broke into the 14s with stuck her new Yurchenko double-full at Winter Cup and posted potential upgrades on her Instagram. Most impressively, Zeiss placed second at the Pan Am selections with a 54.1 and tied first on floor with Kayla DiCello.

Katelyn Rosen

The UCLA commit shows an impressive level of steadiness in her all-around program, not having a particularly weak event. My favorite event to watch of hers is beam where she does an Aerial + LOSO, an Onodi, and a BHS mount. A while back Rosen posted a video of her playing around with a FF + LOSO + Onodi combination that gave me flashbacks of Henrietta Onodi’s beam composition from ’89.

Amelia Disidore

Disidore showed impressive results at the American Classic this week finishing with a 51.800 all-around score to qualify to Nationals. The highlight of her meet was her DTY which went 14.250. Disidore has made remarkable progress just within the past year, showing a DTY on vault; a unique handstand + LOSO + LOSO and floaty RO + Layout on beam; and a double-layout and full-in on floor.
